April 2015 Meeting of Bindii

Our next meeting will be held on Saturday 11 April at the Box Factory, 59 Regent St South, Adelaide. PLEASE NOTE OUR USUAL DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO A WEEK LATER BECAUSE OF EASTER FALLING ON THE FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH. Karin Anderson will present a workshop on:   'Classical Japanese love poetry.   She will also talk about the rules of kyoka,   including examples from Prune Juice and kyoka written after viewing a 1790 Japanese picture.' Prune Juice Journal of Senryu and Kyoka Members are invited to bring examples of their own work for discussion and workshop.

Report on Bindii Meeting 7 February 2015 Box Factory, Adelaide 12 pm – 2 pm.

Our February meeting, chaired by Lee Bentley, concentrated on organizational details for the launch of our new anthology: Haiku Bindii: Willow Light.  The anthology will be launched on Saturday 25 April 2015 at the Box Factory Community Centre. The anthology will contain haiku, tanka, haibun and haiga by Bindii group members.  An afternoon launch is planned, from 2 pm. An invitation will be circulated and placed on our website. Further details for the launch will be discussed at the next meeting on 11 April. GENERAL WORKSHOP: Members shared their tanka, haiku and haibun for workshop. Lee Bentley has invited members to send her their offers of workshops for the 2015 Bindii program. Report on Bindii Meeting 6 December 2014

Eight Bindii members met at the Box Factory for our last meeting for 2014. Members shared haiku, haibun and tanka on a seasonal theme, which they had brought. Some were by favourite writers and some had been composed by members. Members also presented work for general feedback. There was general discussion of our plans for the group in 2015. Meetings will continue to be held at the Box Factory on the first Saturday of every second month, except in April, where the second Saturday has been booked because of Easter. 2015 Meeting dates: February 7, April 11, June 6, August 1, October 3, December 5. 2015 Meeting times: The meeting time will change to 12:00 – 14:00. This will suit some members better and we can bring lunch at this time. Some members may wish to continue at a cafĂ© after the official meeting has ended. NEW TREASURER: Money held by the group is being transferred to Lee Bentley from Alex Ask, as Lee will now be acting as our Treasurer instead of Alex. Many ...

Bindii Meeting on 4 October 2014

Seven Bindii members met at the Box Factory for a tanka workshop. Lynette Arden led a discussion on how to write a good tanka. Members read out tanka they liked and some background material was handed out to members and discussed. This was followed by general workshopping of members’ tanka. Meetings in 2015 will be booked every second month, as the present arrangement seems to be attracting sufficient members to make it worthwhile. Meetings will be held on the first Saturday in the months of February, (April we will need to try to book the second Saturday, as the first Saturday is Easter), June, August, October and December. The meeting time will change to 12:00 – 14:00. This will suit some members better and we can bring lunch at this time. Some members may wish to continue at a cafĂ© after the official meeting has ended. Meeting types and topics have not been finalized for 2015. Any suggestions will be welcome and considered. Bindii Group Meeting Saturday 4 October

This will be a meeting focused on tanka. Please bring your own tanka, tanka you admire, your thoughts on what makes a good tanka and ideas from other sources. We will discuss what makes a tanka work and how to compose a successful tanka. There will also be an opportunity to workshop haiku and other Japanese genre poetry later in the meeting.

Bindii group meeting 2 August 2014

Workshop on Janice Bostok and her contemporaries: Lynette Arden handed out information on the life of Janice Bostok, including comments about Janice’s impact on haiku poetry in Australia and USA. Examples of work from Janice Bostok, Cor van den Heuvel, William J Higginson, Michael McClintock and Marlene Mountain were also distributed and read out by group members. Some of Janice’s work was also discussed and that of some of her contemporaries in USA. Marlene Mountain had commented on her Facebook page about the impact Janice Bostok had on American haiku poets of the time, when Janice first travelled to USA in 1978.
